Lumumba Challenge 2021

Together, brothers, sisters, let us commence a new struggle, a sublime struggle that will lead our country to peace, prosperity and greatness

Patrice Émery Lumumba , 30 June 1960

The Question

  • Can Congo develop and meet every individuals’ interest?
  • Is it right to give up individual benefits/profits for the betterment of the collective?
  • What sacrifice do Congolese people have to make to see a better nation?

This year marks 60 years since the assassination of Patrice Émery Lumumba, Joseph Okito and Maurice Mpolo. Lumumba was renowned for his leadership in presenting a stance against Belgium and the west. Although Lumumba may be criticised for his approach, his hope and vision for Congo should be an inspiration for all of us Congolese to imagine, envision and pursue a Congo we want. With that motivation, #CongoExcellence is calling on young Congolese in Congo and across the world to write about the sacrifice Congolese people need to make for the advancement of the nation.
